ABOUT US
Welcome to Dance for Kids (DFK) and Brentwood Academy of Dance (BAD)! Our vision is to be a safe place for children and young adults to grow and explore, encouraging a love of dance and nurturing life through movement. Dance for Kids was established in 1989. In 1999, Karen Chase, a Broadway dancer, actress and one of the original "Laker Girls," acquired Dance for Kids. She lovingly ran the studio for 23 years, then sold it to her daughter Taryn Greenman, a dance major with 15 years of experience in business. Taryn has done some remodeling and modernizing, and is proud to carry on serving the community!
Dance for Kids cultivates a team of professional dance instructors with degrees from some of the top dance universities and arts academies in the country. Many of the instructors have studied child development, music theory and education and have also trained and performed with some of the best dance companies around the world. The high caliber of professional instruction is one of the many things that sets Dance for Kids apart. The students at DFK study dance in a safe and comfortable environment. Our studios have full length mirrors, viewing windows, great sound systems and professional sprung marley floors which provide consistency and cushioning for the dancer.
Classes start at age 2 with Mommy & Me and our dancers stay with us all the way through high school! Classes for our youngest dancers build coordination and motor skills that will benefit students for a lifetime. We encourage creativity, rhythm, balance and listening skills in a fun environment. As students grow they learn ballet, tap, tumbling, and then move on to add jazz, contemporary/lyrical, acrobatics, and hip-hop. Students (from K-12) looking for elite training and lots of opportunities to perform have an opportunity to join our competition and performance teams.
Our competition teams: Brentwood Academy of Dance (BAD) The BAD performance and competition teams have been entertaining audiences and successfully competing all over Southern California. In competitions, they regularly receive Platinum medal awards for their outstanding performances and choreography. DFK and BAD are now widely recognized as one of the most successful and creative studios for dance instruction in Southern California.
